Rick and Willow
travel along when their parents
are hired to make a documentary
about Dawson City, Yukon. The long
summer days under the midnight
sun leave plenty of time for adventure.
Their new friend Casey takes Rick
and Willow gold panning,
and
Willow finds a ring that could be from
Gold Rush days. Casey’s grandma has
an old cabin on her property. It has lots
of old papers still stuck in the walls
for insulation, but when Rick pulls a piece
out he finds a poem written on it. Rick
is convinced that “The Bishop Who
Ate His Boots" is a lost work by renowned
poet Robert Service, and everyone wants
to solve the mystery. Readers can explore
further aspects of the Gold Rush, the Yukon,
and Robert Service with web links, sidebars,
and historical notes from two leading children’s
authors.
