A stop at the Skagway Visitor Information Center is a great way to start your trip. Located in the Arctic Brotherhood Hall (AB Hall), Visitor Information Specialists can provide advice and have all the information you need about accommodations, restaurants, shopping, things to see and do as well as maps of the area.
Built in 1899 as a fraternal order for the Arctic Brotherhood, the AB Hall is perhaps the most photographed building in Alaska. The facade, which dates from 1900, has been called a prime example of Victorian Rustic Architecture. The exterior of the AB Hall underwent a restoration during the winter of 2004-2005. All of the 8,883 pieces of driftwood were removed. Forty percent (3,533) had rotted and were replaced, while sixty percent (5,300) were still able to be preserved and reattached more than one hundred years after the original construction.
