Yukon Road Report

Summer days in Whitehorse seem endless. Nineteen hours of daylight means lots of playtime…

Many outdoor activities take place on the banks of the famed Yukon River. Once the backbone of Yukon transportation, the river still defines our community. Anglers can cast for arctic grayling almost anywhere along the shore. Thrill-seeking kayakers dip their paddles just upstream for white-water fun. Those with calmer tastes will prefer to canoe downstream. The truly adventurous can float this mighty waterway all the way to Dawson City.

You can hike, bike or jog our vast network of trails, many following the shores of the river. Across the river located in Riverdale is our award-winning skateboard park. Throughout the summer, Rotary Peace Park hosts events such as Canada Day celebrations and the Yukon International Storytelling Festival. Our most famous landmark, the S.S. Klondike National Historic Site, is located on the banks of the Yukon River.
