Face To Face
With The
North
The Yukon Wildlife Preserve offers an unforgettable chance to
experience 10+ iconic species of northern Canadian mammals
— all living in spacious, natural habitats spanning 700-acres. It’s
the only facility of its kind in the North where you can view such
a wide range of wildlife year-round, up close and in one place.
The Preserve’s rich variety of landscapes mirrors the true
habitats of these animals, making each encounter feel like a wild
discovery. Whether you're a photographer, a wildlife lover, or a
curious traveler, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve offers unmatched
viewing, photo opportunities and cultivates curiosity and
impactful learning experiences about our relationship to the
natural word.
Large Visitor parking — including space for maneuvering
commercial buses and RVs — is conveniently located right off
the Takhini Hot Springs Rd. Begin your visit at the log reception
building, where our friendly wildlife interpreters will welcome
you and provide an orientation. Choose a regularly scheduled
guided bus tour for a deeper dive into wildlife stories, or explore
at your own pace on foot, our adventure by renting a fatbike,
with wildlife wisdom boards guiding your journey.
Nature moves at its own pace — and invites us to do the same.
While animals may gather at central feeding stations, the real
magic happens when you slow down and stay awhile. Quiet
observation often reveals the small, beautiful moments and
insights into animal behaviour you’d otherwise miss. Plan to
spend around 2 hours exploring.
Watch for Lynx slipping through the trees, Moose wading
through wetlands, or Thinhorn Sheep standing watch from rocky
heights. Along your journey, you might also encounter Muskox,
Wood Bison, Elk, Caribou, Mule Deer, and red foxes — each
a glimpse into the wild heart of the North— all thriving, with
some given a second chance at life, thanks to the dedicated
stewardship of our animal care team.
The health and safety of the animals in our care is our highest
priority. To prevent the spread of disease and protect both
wildlife and visitors, please ensure dogs remain in vehicles and
refrain from any contact with or feeding of the animals.
