VILLAGE OF
HAINES JUNCTION
The Village of Haines Junction is situated in
an area with exceptional winter recreation
opportunities. There are many ways to experience
this extraordinary area. Whether you do it yourself,
hire a guide or join a group you are sure to have a
quality wilderness experience. Mid-February to mid-
March is the best time for winter activities in Haines
Junction and surrounding area. The days are getting
longer, and there is usually lots of sun and snow.
SNOWMOBILING
Within easy driving distance of Haines Junction
lie vast areas of snow above treeline—with deep
fresh white powder, a season that runs well into
May, and ample choices for novices to experts.
Snowmobilers can travel on several trails which
leave right from town or they can trailer their
machines to one of several nearby locations for a
unique mountain snowmobiling experience.
HAINES JUNCTION
SKIING
With lots of snow and choices for all
abilities, Haines Junction is a prime
location for both cross-country skiers
and ski touring enthusiasts. Several
scenic ski trails close to town are
maintained. Contact the St. Elias Ski
Club for details.
ICE FISHING
Pine Lake, Kathleen Lake, Dezadeash
Lake and Kluane Lake are all accessible
and popular for ice fishing. A Yukon/
Parks Canada Fishing Licence is
required.
DOG SLEDDING
Dog sledding is a unique way to
experience the beauty and vastness of
the Haines Junction. Dog sledding is
permitted in Kluane National Park and
Reserve for both day and overnight
trips; some restrictions apply.
