YUKON QUEST
YUKON'S SLED DOGS
A hundred years ago, sled dogs were
crucial in the Yukon, supporting commerce,
healthcare, transportation, and communication
before planes and roads existed. Today,
the Yukon Quest celebrates this legacy with
elite marathon sled dogs descended from
Klondike Gold Rush stock, renowned for their
endurance and prowess in harsh northern
conditions. Since 1984, the race has drawn
global spectators and enthusiasts, providing
them with the opportunity to witness this
extraordinary event firsthand or experience
driving their own dog team.
THE YUKON QUEST EVOLUTION
Introducing a new trail, the 2025 Yukon Quest
starts with a ceremonial start in Whitehorse
on February 1st, followed by the official start
in Teslin on February 2nd. The trail spans
approximately 425 miles, beginning from Teslin,
along the lakeshore to Johnson’s Crossing,
continuing via the South Canol Highway to Ross
River, crossing the Dena Cho Trail to Faro, and
returning via the Pelly River to Ross River, before
concluding back in Teslin. This new route is
designed to enhance safety for trail breakers,
mushers, and dogs alike.
“This is a very positive move for the safety of
the trail breakers, the mushers and the
dogs” - Anne Tayler, President. In the
future, the Yukon Quest aims to expand the
trail safely, reflecting their commitment to
the well-being of all participants.
